  • The four-week collegiate programme delves into the business aspects of football by exploring fundamental areas associated with managing and growing the global game. The programme will centre around four key modules: Foundations of the Global Sports Industry, Cross-cultural Leadership and Strategy, Financial Management and Marketing, Innovation, Legacy and the Future of Sport. Through a blend of lectures, workshops, tutorials and site visits, students will gain a 360-degree outlook on the business side of football.  

    Students will explore key topics, examine real-world case studies and engage with industry professionals from Manchester City. By the end of the course, students will gain a well-rounded understanding of how football operates beyond the pitch and develop key insights into its truly global landscape.  

    Students can also earn college credit as our programme is validated by our U.S based University partner. 

  • The Man City Undergraduate Summer program runs July 6 – 31, 2026.

     

    Program Start Date: Monday, July 6 

    • This is the day you should plan to arrive in Manchester. 
    • If you are in MCSBS provided housing, you can check into housing on this day. 

     

    Orientation: Tuesday, July 7 

     

    Program End Date: Friday, July 31

    • If you are in  MCSBS provided housing, you will check-out of housing on this day. 

     

    Classes are held Monday – Friday, 10am – 4pm (with a break for lunch). 

     

    You should anticipate being in class 4 – 5 days per week to complete these intensive courses. There are no required evening or weekend academic commitments. 

  • All applicants must be at least 18 years old by beginning of the program and we recommend that they are currently enrolled in, or considering enrolling in, or have recently completed an undergraduate university program. 

    Applying students are required to have a minimum 2.5 GPA or equivalent and will need to upload an unofficial copy of their most current university transcript as well as provide a short personal statement detailing their interest in the program.  

    Students must be proficient in written and spoken English to attend the Man City Undergraduate Summer Program. We will request English-language test scores for those who are not from majority English-speaking nations. For non-native English speakers, we require a minimum IELTS score of 6.5, TOEFL score of 85 IBT, CEFR score of B2, or a Duolingo score of 120.

    To apply, you need to complete the application form, which includes a Personal Statement explaining why you’re interested in the programme and how it aligns with your goals.

  • Students can expect to hear back from the admissions team with a decision regarding their acceptance within 2 weeks of submitting their application.

  • Classes are Monday – Thursday. Academic classes are 10am-12pm, with co-curriculars and/or guest lectures 2-4pm.

    There are no classes on Fridays.

    There are no required evening or weekend academic commitments. 

  • Classes are conducted on the University of Salford Campus (Manchester), the same location where student accommodation is locatedField trips locations may include Etihad Stadium, National Football Museum, Media City UK, and a study trip to London including a stadium tour. 

  • Your Manchester accommodation is in the heart of the city within award-winning, newly built facilities in Salford’s student district.  

    Students will each have their own room, with an en-suite toilet and shower, and access to shared kitchen and common rooms.

    Students will each have their own lockable room, with en-suite toilet and shower, and access to a kitchen and open plan lounge shared with other Man City Summer Collegiate Program students. Bedding and towels are provided. You can also make use of the building’s common areas and outdoors social spaces.

  • Students can indicate any allergies or necessary dietary requirements prior to arrival in their programme forms.  

    Students will have access to fully equipped, shared kitchens. The area local to your residence also has shops and cafes.

  • You are strongly advised to take out private medical insurance, as you will be liable for NHS charges for the treatment you receive in the UK except for in a medical emergency and this is limited.  

    Some countries have a reciprocal agreement with the UK which may entitle you to some free healthcare on the NHS, but you should seek advice from the health authorities in your home country about exactly what treatment will be covered.  

  • Visitors coming to the UK who do not hold a paper, or e-visa (such as visitors coming from non-visa national countries such as the USA, Canada, Australia etc.) must now apply for an electronic travel authorisation document. Your carrier will not allow you to check in unless you hold this document. 

    This should be applied for online; as of January 2025, the cost is £16 and can be used for visits to the UK for a two-year period. 

    The processing time for this document is around three days so needs to be done in advance of buying your flight ticket.

    Depending on your country of origin, you may also require a visa to participate in the Man City Collegiate Program. Generally, the Standard Visitor visa may be the most appropriate visa to use to participate in the programme; however, we strongly encourage international students to contact their country of origin’s embassy/government office to confirm. We also encourage international students to visit the UK Government Visa website for additional details. The Institute can provide letters of verification upon request.

  • MCSBS Collegiate Program students residing in MCSBS accommodation may move in after 3pm on your program start date (Monday 6 July).  You are welcome to arrive in Manchester before this date, but you will need to arrange independent accommodation as access to the residence is only permitted from the program dates and time stated. 

    Your arrival day is open so you can familiarise yourself with the area, buy groceries and other necessities, and settle into your residential community. 

    You should plan on checking out of your MCSBS housing by 10am on your program end date (Friday 31 July). If you wish to remain in Manchester after this date, you need to arrange independent accommodation as MCSBS cannot facilitate housing extensions. 

    Students who have arranged independent accommodation / housing for the program should plan to move in on or before the program start date. 

  • Students should make their own transport arrangements to get to their accommodation.  

    Transport for Greater Manchester (TFGM) operates Manchester’s public transportation routes, including buses and trams. Its extensive website contains maps, timetables for services, updates on planned closures or delays to the service, information on fares and payment methods and a Journey Planner tool to travel throughout the network.  

    Students should make provisions to cover any personal travel costs for the duration of the program. 

  • Virtual pre-departure orientations will take place approximately a month prior to your program start date. 

    Admitted Students will receive a Zoom link from the Summer Program team in advance of their Pre-Departure Orientation date. 

    During these sessions, you will receive further details about your programme and will have the chance to ask any questions from the programme team.   

    If you were unable to attend these pre-departure Q&A sessions, a recorded version will be made available following each one of them.  

    Students residing in MCSBS accommodation will have a Welcome Meeting in the afternoon of their arrival day (Monday 6 July).  All Man City Collegiate Programme students must attend their course orientation on Tuesday 7 July, which will take place in the morning with their first class taking place that afternoon. 

  • What to bring:  

    • Clothing: The weather in Manchester is unpredictable and variable, even in summer – so the best packing plan is to pack layers! Light and cool casual summer clothing, jacket, sweatshirt or hoodie, raincoat, sandals, sporty clothing, comfortable walking shoes, pyjamas, a set of nicer, professional clothes.*  
    • Weather gear: sunscreen, sunglasses, raincoat, umbrella, reusable water bottle  
    • Academic supplies: laptop, tablet, notebook or journal 
    • Personal electronics: smart phone, camera, alarm clock, headphones, travel adapters, chargers, etc. – there is a lockable cupboard in each accommodation room to secure valuable items.  
    • Personal items: travel-size toiletries, hair dryer, etc.  
    • Prescription medication for the duration of your programme (if applicable); please note some medications commonly prescribed in other countries may not be readily available in the UK.  
    • Laundry bag  
    • Photo ID/Passport and copy of health insurance details.  
    • *Students should also bring clothing that is smart casual and appropriate for class site visits to offices and workspaces (comfortable, but presentable). Formal and/or semi-formal wear is not necessary (dress clothes, dresses/gowns, suits and ties, dress shoes, sports jackets, etc.). No specific football kit is necessary, but students can bring it if they want for some ad-hoc sport sessions during free time.  

     

    What NOT to bring:  

    • Students may not bring flammable materials, including but not limited to candles, incense, matches, lighters, explosive devices or fireworks. Violators of this policy will be subject to immediate dismissal.  
    • Students are not allowed to bring or possess weapons of any kind, including but not limited to knives, firearms, paintball guns, laser pointers, pepper spray or other dangerous items. Violators of this policy will be subject to immediate dismissal.  
    • Students are not allowed to use or possess drugs or unauthorized medications. Violators of this policy will be subject to immediate dismissal. Students are expected to follow all University of Salford policies and regulations governing the use, possession, and distribution of tobacco, alcohol, and other regulated legal substances. Violators of these policies will be subject to immediate dismissal.  
    • Students are not allowed to have or operate a car, skateboard, skates or a bicycle on campus.  
    • Students may not bring pets.  
    • Students many not bring drones or any other motorized objects.  
    • We recommend that students not bring any valuables; MCSBS takes no responsibility for lost, damaged or stolen items.  
    • Bedding and towels are provided, so students need not bring sheets, pillows, blankets or towels. However, if students prefer to bring their own bedding, they can.
